Authority and personality.

Wrenley Advisory is a strategic editorial and communications consultancy that combines the judgement of a newsroom with the care of an agency. It helps CEOs and their teams find and tell stories that are clear, stylish, and worth reading.

About

  • Wrenley does two things: writing and advisory.

The writing covers anything that needs to hold up in public such as thought leadership, reports, op-eds, speeches, and the long-form work most in-house teams don't have time for.

The advisory is the editorial thinking that happens before the writing: finding the right story and shaping an argument around what the audience needs to hear. Sometimes that means a communications strategy or media coaching. Sometimes it means acting as an ongoing editorial partner who asks the questions that insiders won't.

Both draw on years of working in newsrooms where the writing had to be accurate, fast, and of a standard and elegance that discerning audiences expect.

  • Wrenley's clients are mostly in financial services, energy and climate, tech, and luxury. They tend to be businesses with something considered to say and not enough time or resource to say it well.

Some are founders or executives who want to work directly with someone who understands their sector. Others are in-house communications teams looking for an extra pair of hands or agencies in need of editorial support on specific briefs. Arrangements range from individual projects to year-long retainers and beyond.

  • We’ve written for hard-nosed news audiences and audiences who care as much about how something is written as what it says. That work spans print, digital, audio and video.

It’s an uncommon range and it shows up in the work. We know what makes a story credible and what will make an audience actually want to read it.

  • David Hodari set up Wrenley after a decade as a journalist reporting for the Wall Street Journal and running business and international coverage at Monocle and NBC News. He uses the editorial instincts he built in those newsrooms to help businesses and the people who lead them find their voice, shape their thinking, and tell better stories.

People say

  • Mike Steele, Global Content Strategy Director, Citigroup

“I worked with David on several white papers at Citi and would highly recommend him. He quickly mastered complex financial topics and translated them into clear, executive-level narratives aligned with our strategic objectives. His writing is sharp, well-structured, and insight-driven — and he is consistently professional, responsive, and reliable. David is a strong partner for any organization seeking high-quality, business-focused thought leadership.”

  • Dan Lifshits, Co-Founder, Dwelly

“David is one of the most thoughtful editorial and communications people I’ve worked with. He helped us sharpen Dwelly’s tone of voice and translate what we were building into language that was clear, confident and genuinely distinctive.

What stood out was his ability to quickly understand both the product and the people behind it. He doesn’t just polish copy — he helps you articulate what you actually want to say and why it matters. The result was messaging that felt far more aligned with who we are as a company.

He’s collaborative, insightful and very easy to work with. I’d happily recommend him to any founder or team looking to raise the quality of their storytelling and communications.”

  • F. Brinley Bruton, Assistant Managing Editor for International News, NBC News

“David showed himself to be a meticulous and thoughtful editor, an elegant writer and a considerate manager and colleague. He also juggled the many tasks a very busy newsroom flung at him with unusual calm and humor.”

  • Laura House, Former Editor-in-Chief, Publicis New York

“We tapped David to translate a dense industry report for a consumer audience and he delivered. David was collaborative, understood the brief, and he made sense of complex material in short order. I would welcome the opportunity to work with David again.”
